The UCSB surf team competed in the 4th and final regular season event last weekend, January 17th at Mission Beach. The competition was blessed with four to six foot clean peaks on both Saturday and Sunday. The team competition was extremely close throughout the entire event. The final results were decided on last heat of the day - the Longboard Final. UCSB's longboarder needed to finish 2nd place in order for the team to tie for first in the event. In the final 5 minutes Cole Robbins (UCSB longboarder) paddled into a draining seven foot lefthander and got a few maneuvers in before flipping over his board and getting washed onto the beach. The wave was rewarded by the judges with the score he needed to move into second place and the team won a shared victory with UCSD. Other standouts included Robert Curtis (second place men's shortboard) and Rachel Harris (second place women). UCSB is now second place overall in the ratings and has secured a solid seed in the State Championships March 6th at Huntington Beach.
