About the Team
The UCSB Fencing Club offers an opportunity for intermediate and advanced fencers to practice together while at the same time emphasizing education and training for beginners. The club is open to UCSB students in good academic standing, as well as community members over the age of 13. We emphasize both recreational and competitive fencing. We offer a beginners' two-week fencing class, and compete in foil, sabre, and epee. The best time to start these classes is at the beginning of each academic quarter, although new fencers are welcomed at any time.

Registration is now Online!
Here is the link for detailed instructions: http://www.gauchosplay.com/attachments/1010_Sport%20Club%20Online%20Process.pdf
Things to know about registering. You need to pay with a credit card at the end. If you absolutely must there is a way to put it on your BARC account. We ask that you please use the online form though, its much easier and we don't have to worry about paperwork for it.
You still have to fill out physical forms and get those to us by the end of the month. Read the hand out I passed out.
Non UCSB members, you can join too! Follow the Non-UCSB Student portion of that same PDF.
If you alumni are feeling generous you can join for a quarter as a donation to the club. Of course we'd love to see you here too!
So if you members could please register as soon as possible that would be great. Competitive members, you MUST be registered and have the physical forms filled out.

Cal Poly SLO holds an annual Fall tournament -- their Turkey Tournament. This year (2008) it was attended by fencers from Cal Poly, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz, and UC Santa Barbara.
Ken Coleman and Stephanie Lind, the captains of the mens and womens saber squads, finished first and second out of 23 in the Mixed Saber event. Charles Poon, from the Mens foil squad, also fenced saber, finishing in 8th place, and giving our saber team a first place finish overall. Charles also won the Bronze in the Mixed Foil event. Although there were 32 entrants in that event, he was the sole foilist from UCSB.
We also sent two epee fencers, Jae Hun and Maggie Sharp, who finished 26 and 27 out of 28 in their event.
Novice foil, restricted to athletes who have been fencing for less than one year, 5 fencers from the UCSB fencing club attended, along with another 12 UCSB students from the ES class. That's 17 people from UCSB, out of a total of 51 entrants. 16 of our fencers finished in the top 32, eight of them finished in the top 16, and five were finalists, making the top 8. UCSB fencers won the Gold, Silver, and Bronze after only two months of instruction. These medalists were Alexei Mlodinow, Reese Beisser, and Yannick Concordal.
