About the Team

The UCSB Wakeboard and Waterski Team is a competitive collegiate tournament team that competes in NCWSA, 3-event waterski tournaments as well as WWA Wakeboard tournaments. In the 3-events tournaments collegiate skiers compete in slalom, trick and jump. In the Wakeboard tournaments competitors compete in well...wakeboarding. At our regional tournaments we compete against schools such as ASU, Cal Poly, UCLA, Western Washington University, USC, UC Davis, Chico State, Sacramento State and more. If we qualify for nationals we compete against school form all over the country.img_2009

Waterski Team

The tournaments are held in the fall and spring seasons. There are usually 4-5 tournament per season located all over CA. Beyond tournaments, the team also puts on fun events all year such as Alumni Weekend, Parents Weekend, and a spring break Houseboat trip to the Lake Berryessa for 3 full days.

The team meets every week at 8 PM in Girvetz Hall, room 2129. If you have any interest at all be sure to make it to a meeting and check us out. Don't be a stranger!

Experience

Most of our competitors had never competed at the tournament level until college. The majority of the team grew up either recreationally skiing with their parents or friends. We do ask that you have some experience waterskiing or wakeboarding if you are interested in joining the team. Meaning that you have gotten up out the water before on 2 skis, 1 ski or a board. If you have absolutely no experience but are itching to get involved in the sport and want to learn, send us an email or make sure to make it to one of our weekly meetings (Tuesday 8PM in 2129 Girvetz). If you have previous experience on a slalom course, jump ramp, or in any kind of tournament setting you are FAR ahead of the game.

Practice

The team currently practices behind a 2008 Malibu Response XLI with a wakeboard tower. Practices are held two to four times a week at one of two practice venues. Lake Nacimiento in Paso Robles is a large lake that is great for filling a fat sacks and running wakeboard practice. It does have a slalom course making it ski friendly as well. We also belong to a private lake in Lemoore called Sunrise Ski Ranch. This lake is not ideal for wakeboarding as it is short and narrow, however it is excellent for slalom skiing, as the water is always flat and the course is well maintained. At practice, members have the option of riding whatever they want when it is their turn behind the boat. Both lakes are approximately two to two and a half hours away from Santa Barbara. All expenses including travel gas and boat gas are included in team dues.

Perks to the Team

Well besides hanging out with all of us... Our team is sponsored by Connelly, CWB, HO Sports, Hyperlite, Liquid Force, and Straight Line. We received pro deals from all of these companies, enabling us to get merchandise for around 50% off.

The primary goal of our team is to have fun competing at waterskiing. We love to ski and love to have a great time wherever we go. UCSB has the reputation of being the most fun collegiate team in the region, and we take pride in having a great time. We meet every Tuesday night at 8 pm in Girvetz hall, room 2129. Come check us out and join up if you want to have the best experience that UCSB has to offer you. If you have any questions, feel free to give us an email back at UCSB Water Ski Team. Come check us out that first Tuesday of classes. Hope to see YOU there. Later...
