Rec Sports - General
  • No Experience Necessary
  • Interest, Not Skill is the only prerequisite for participation
  • For Fun, Fitness & Friendship

“Education through Recreation or the Power of Play” is our mantra and teaches life skills such as competitive achievement, teamwork, leadership, communication, integrity, self-control and social responsibility. Check out our numerous opportunities for participation/employment/internships in Intramural Sports, Sport Clubs, Adventure Programs and Athletic Training.

And while participating or involved as a student leader in our Rec. Sports family, consider how this mantra contributes to your personal development and your ability to make intelligent and ethical decisions.

Recreational Sports is also about people, participation, being part of a team and making friends. It is about creating memories, the kinds of memories that last a lifetime.

During the Great Gaucho Reunion this past April, Mike Cullinane, class of 1964 was honored with a Recreational Sports Hall of Fame Award. His fellow Gaucho alums returned to our “campus by the sea” and packed the room at the Mosher Alumni House.

After almost 50 years, these Gauchos are still passionate about their UCSB Recreational Sports experiences, and I hope UCSB Recreational Sports contributes to your success and happiness as it did theirs!

“Physical exercise is not only necessary to the health and development of the body, but to balance and correct intellectual pursuits as well. The mere athlete is brutal and philistine, the mere intellectual unstable and spiritless. The right education must tune the strings of both body and mind to perfect spiritual harmony.” -Plato

Sincerely,

Paul Kuan Lee

Director of Recreational Sports
